Pappas Launches TuVisión
September 21, 2007
By Katy Bachman

Pappas Telecasting Companies announced late Thursday it had debuted TuVisión, its new Spanish-language TV network on five of its stations, following a soft launch of the net July 1.

TuVisión, which means "Your Vision," replaced the underperforming Azteca America programming on KAZH-TV in Houston, KTNC-TV serving the San Francisco and Sacramento markets, KAZR in Reno, Nev., KAZO in Omaha, and KAZJ in Sioux City, Iowa.
By the end of 2007, Pappas expects to clear the network on an additional 15 stations. KAZA-TV, which currently clears Azteca America, will carry TuVisión when its contract ends with Azteca in 2008. Including the planned addition of network affiliates, the new network will cover nearly 40 percent of the U.S. Hispanic population.

TuVisión operations are managed by Fernando Acosta, who has led the Spanish-language TV stations for Pappas for five years.

Programming includes Golden Era Mexican Cinema every afternoon and evening, plus a schedule of daytime programming from 4 to 8 p.m. that includes Alma Gemela (Soul Mate), a novela produced by TV Globo, which aired in the U.S. in 2002; Paparazzi TV, an entertainment show produced by Spanish Broadcasting System's MegaTV; and En Su Defensa (In Your Defense), a court show; as well as some weekend shows. In addition to airing first-run programming, Pappas said it is also working with Latino talent in the U.S. to develop original programming.

"The development of this new Hispanic programming platform with solid distribution and high-value Hispanic programming content will give us a unique opportunity to provide an additional great viewing experience to Hispanic audiences," said Dennis Davis, president and COO of Pappas, in a statement.
